Modular Clutch/Brake on Conveyor Drive

Problem:

A customer uses a conveyor drive in its operation which cycles 12 times a minute, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The heavy cyclic operation was taking its toll on the motor drives, resulting in frequent motor burnouts.

Solution:

Mounting a Horton MIDB-1375 clutch/brake module (operating on 22 p.s.i. air pressure) between the 3 hp, 900 RPM motor and the reducer with Airflex couplings has been very successful. Motor life has been dramatically increased and, despite the heavy cyclic operation, the module needs only routine maintenance at three month intervals. Following this application, the customer added two more modules on other conveyors and is extremely satisfied.
